If anything can stand out from our patronal celebrations of the year 2011 for its uniqueness, it is the celebration that he organized ¡ he prepared the Contraria de Sant Jordi on the day of our Patron Saint George; haha, despite having coincided with Holy Saturday and previous agreement of all the representative estates of our people to delay our celebration Georgina, he didn't want to miss the opportunity to celebrate the patron saint's festival, so that the residents of Banyeres de Mariola could express the great devotion we feel towards our beloved Patron Saint George at the time.
The Opposite of Sant Jordi, for several months, had been creating an unusual expectation that, little by little, was “crescendo” reaching its culmination with the distribution of posters that announced “THE FEAST OF SANT JORDI”: a simple event to which all the residents of Banyeres de Mariola were invited, and that it would be celebrated in the Major plaque once the Paschal Mass and the Encounter Procession had finished; and with the placement on the facade of the Parish Temple, the same morning of 23 d'abril, of the banner with the image of our beloved Patrón with the inscription that so well expresses the feeling of our whole town: “VÍTOL AL PATRON SANT JORDI!”, preparations in which all the residents of Plaça Major also collaborated, decorating their windows and balconies with the banners of the shield and the Saint George's Cross, that a neighbor very kindly donated anonymously to decorate the plaque for the celebration of this event.
On the other hand, the Contraria de Sant Jordi, after several months of preparation, managed to involve the Confraternity of Our Lady of Sorrows responsible for the Procession of the Encounter so that they shortened their procession as much as possible so that Sant Jordi was on the street before 12:00 h of the night of the day 23, how so did they and, so, they also deserve everyone's thanks for their involvement and responsibility towards all bathers.
It was a small celebration, sense ostentations or excesses, but with a great emotional charge and a public manifestation of the devotion that all bathers, children and neighbors of our town we feel towards Sant Jordi.
celebration, although simple, not exempt from the elements that have always characterized our town's way of celebrating: fired from 21 Salutes of honor at the exit of the Saint from his Altar in the Main Square amidst the smoke created expressly to give greater anticipation at the beginning of the festive celebration; interpretation of “The National Anthem” at the exit to the square; cant of “the Hymn to Sant Jordi”; fireworks display; song of “Joy to our Patron Saint George” and the great surprise that the Contraria had prepared for us and that it so jealously kept secret and that was never leaked, although there were many of us who tried to find out, so we know, what would it consist of: the possibility of being able to venerate the Image of our beloved Patron who presides over his Altar in the Parish Temple; continuing the celebration with the distribution of pastries, spirits and traditional sweets, all this enlivened by the performance by the Societat Musical de Banyeres de Mariola, com ve sent habitual, of party music as the start of our patronal festivities that would officially materialize at 9:00 h of the next day with “the Plant of the flags” by all the rows and the general ringing of bells in the Parish Temple ¡ by the Contraria in the Ermita de Sant Jordi.
The personal Veneration to our Patron that had never been done until this day. It was the first time that it was available to anyone who wanted to approach Sant Jordi, the opportunity to express your most intimate desires to him, emotions, thanks, etc.
Such was the level of secrecy and preparation, which was precisely at the moment that the Municipal Authorities began to climb the steps of the Parish Temple to start venerating the Image, followed by the rector, Mayorals of Contraria de Sant Jordi, members of the Party Committee, Presidents and Captains of the different troupes, when members of the Junta de la Contraria approached all those present to reveal to us the surprise that anyone who wanted could approach to venerate our beloved Patron Saint George.
Being able to go to bed, to touch it and especially to be able to kiss it as a manifestation of our respect, love and devotion was something that until now was unthinkable for all of us and that had never crossed our imaginations. And above all, it gave us great recollection and emotion to be able to contemplate the attitude of festive and quiet celebration at the same time, feeling and roar of unbridled joy, see the surprised faces, expectation, veneration ¡ love of all the devotees of our Martyr: old, adults and children gathered around our Patrón Sant Jordi, to CELEBRATE the day of his big party.
A full day of Easter Party and Celebration, started with the Paschal Resurrection Vigil, the celebration of the Procession of I’ Find i with no, The Feast of Sant Jordi. A magnificent start to the celebration of our patronal feasts in honor of our Excellency Patron Sant Jordi!
That is why we want to thank the Contraria de Sant Jordi for such an important and meaningful evening for all of us who feel great love and devotion to our Patron Saint George, that our ancestors have been passing down to us generation after generation until today, because they managed to get us closer to Sant Jordi; as well as to all the people who have collaborated because the Contraria, of all of us, able to carry out this simple Celebration, but that will be remembered over the years
for all of us who were lucky enough to be able to experience it personally “¡n”. And also to thank all those who, due to various circumstances, could not be present at this celebration but whose sentiments, yes, they were on the Banyeres de Mariola plaque despite the distance, illness or impediments of any kind, as well as to the two thousand people who were there and whose presence made it possible for our town to celebrate and celebrate its well-loved Patron Sant Jordi Martir on the day 23 d'abril.
