PROGRAM NOTES

Each foothold four composers who present themselves in the program represent four different ways of thinking. Four ways with distant origins but with the common goal of translating that same beauty in the way that leads to art. Elgar's genius melodic dialogue with the ability contrapuntal Bach. The most mysterious and profound Wagner faced with the charm of Janácek singu¬lar.

PROGRAM NOTES

I Part

In the late eighteenth century, in the field of European opera imposed two masters: W. A. Mozart ¡Vicente Martín y Soler. Match the same period in Vienna as musicians of the court of Joseph II. Lorenzo da Ponte, both librettist, considered to Spanish “superior” the Geni i Salzburg, moreover, I’ premiere of "A Rare Thing" was more successful than "Le nozze di Figaro".

The six "Divertimentos" by Vicente Martín y Soler (all for the same instrumental combination), were probably written around 1795, when the composer was in London, just after his Russian period. The great English musician was used in these "Divertimenti", Some famous subjects of the famous opera "Una Cosa Rara" (1786), as well as other known operas of his legacy as "Burbuero II Cuore di buon" or "Larbore di Diana".

These "Divertimenti" we could consider an advertising claim in his time, because it was a quick presentation of their work and that could make their way in society theater so competitive that reigned in the late eighteenth century London.

The octets are designed to 2 oboès, 2 "Basset horns" ("Cornu basset" in les parts instrumentals), 2 tubal ("Cornu" in the parts), 2 fagots i serpentó (Bassoon 2 & Serpano in part). The transcription presented here is a classical wind quintet performed by Cuesta Quintet.

All these "Divertimenti" are structured in four movements with classical forms and Dumber, although impregnated of that genius displayed in all the melodies of the great musician Valencian.

The works are preserved in the British Library in a play instrumental parts that seem to have been written decision.

II Part

CHILDREN´S CORNER / Debussy (1862-1918)

When completed this series of Debussy piano pieces, Dubbed the "Children's Corner" (Children's corner), dedicated: "To my dear little Shu-Shu, with tender apology to his father as follows ".

Children's corner consists of six parts, but in this transcript present only three movements: "Degree of Doctor Parnassus". The title of the first beats of the Corner… the only thing that is not in English, but in Latin. In Debussy not occurred to him the title "Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum" no more, a whim; had good reason: There was a method to learn to play the piano named "Gradus ad Parnassum", a great Italian pianist, Muzio Clementi. The title of "Doctor",

perhaps there's Debussy add it as a sign of respect for the great master
Clementi.

“The little shepherd” (The Little Shepherd). In a musical fable.

“Golliwogg’s cake-walk” (The cake-walk of GolHwogg). Golliwogg was the name of a
color doll that had invented an American who lived in England there
per 1900.
