Exchange of Saint George the Martyr prints between the islands of Malta and Gozo and the Brotherhood of Saint George 14-09-2022
As we well know, Sant Jordi is one of the most revered saints in the world, and that's not why we don't stop being surprised when we see in other countries how they celebrate their festivity and what their iconography is like. We have an example in the city of Modica (Ragusa) Sicily, from where for the month of April 2022 a video of the procession that every 23 d'April walks the streets of this city. What impressed us the most is the way the image is carried, in other words that is, they walk the route at a fast pace and sometimes even run, Simulating the gallop. The local band accompanying them plays a joyful and festive march called: The King (Archibald Mizzi), another peculiarity is that the bearers are dressed in a red shirt and the whole world gathered there sings the march.
We will contact you from the Confraternity of Sant Jordi, via postal mail, with San Giorgio Martyr Patron of Modica, with the Association of bearers of San Giorgio, also with San Giorgio Martyr Patron of Ragusa and with a gentleman from the island of Malta called Neville Attard, devotee and bearer of the image of Sant Jordi in the city of Qormi, to be able to exchange prints and information on the celebrations in honor of the Megalo-Martyr Sant Jordi. We will send them prints of the Joys and the Hymn to Sant Jordi, the book of “Sant Jordi is coming to Banyeres de Mariola” among others and they have done the same with us. From the islands of Malta and Gozo, he sends us a good cabbage·collection of prints, stamps, stickers, some keychain, magnets and even a program of their festivities and which from now on are part of the archive of the Confraternity of Sant Jordi.
On YouTube we can find a wide variety of videos of the different celebrations organized throughout the year in honor of Sant Jordi in the islands of Sicily, Malta i Gozo. We really claim that they are very interesting and enriching.
We appreciate the attention received and the interest in sharing with us the devotion to Sant Jordi, manifested in each of the prints that he sends us.
