D. Vicente Juan Segura Bishop of Ibiza will be the Preacher at the Major Mass on St George's Day

The Excel•lentíssim i Reverendíssim Sr. D. Vicente Juan Segura Bishop of Ibiza was born on 22 May 1955 in Tavernes de la Valldigna (Valencia).

He completed his ecclesiastical studies at the Metropolitan Seminary of Valencia and at the Real Col•legi Seminari del Corpus Christi, being ordained a priest on the day 24 October of the year 1981. later, in the same year, he moved to Italy where he obtained a doctorate in Canonical Law at the Pontifical University of Sant Tomás d’ Aquinas of the city of Rome in 1988 i l’any 1989 He returned to Spain where he obtained a doctorate in Civil Law from the University of Valencia, also between 1985 i 1988 he completed diplomatic studies at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, entering on July 1 1988 in the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See.

Between the years 1981 i 1985 was Vicar parochial in the Parish of San Antonio of Abbot of Cullera belonging to the Archdiocese of Valencia, during his time in the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See he held the positions of Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciatures in Costa Rica between the years 1988 i 1990, in Morocco until 1991 i a Mozambique fins a 1994, from this year he became Counselor of the Nunciature and Head of the Spanish Language Section at the Secretary of State of the Holy See, to the service of His Holiness, and also during this time it was a parish cooperator in the Parish of Sant Melchiade of Rome and Chapla.

Later in the day 22 of January of the year 2005, Pope Juan Pablo II appointed him Titular Bishop of the Diocese of Ibiza, receiving the Sacrament of Holy Orders on the day 14 of May of the same year at the hands of the Argentine cardinal Leonardo Sandri and having in the celebration of taking possession as consecrators the cardinal Ricard Maria Carles and the (then Archbishop of Valencia) Mons. Agustin Garcia – Gasco Vicente, succeeding Mons. Agustín Cortés Soriano, position that Vicente Juan currently holds.

It belongs to the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), in which he began as a member of the "Episcopal Subcommittee for Family and Life" between the years 2005 i 2008, until it happened to belong to the "Episcopal Commission of the Secular Apostolate" until 2011, which currently belongs to the "Comisión de Patrimonio Cultural".

He has a close relationship with our town, having been the architect of the arrival of the second Relic of Sant Jordi and the Relic of Saint Lucia in Banyeres de Mariola.

He has also visited our town on several occasions, being the most prominent the 14 December 2003 on the occasion of presiding the Eucharist of the Festival of Saint Lucia, and the 5 September 2004, to preside over the Solemn Eucharist of the Feast of the Relic.
