THE SPHERE COULD HAVE BEEN DETACHED
The clock on the bell tower installed by the company Talleres Cronos de Roquetas (Tarragona) in october 1951 It has had to be removed due to the deterioration it suffered and the danger it entailed for passers-by.
The sphere had several holes, one of them large at the height of the number 9, and a smaller one, presumably by the impact of a compressed rifle pellet, next to 4. was also cracked, which translated into a serious danger due to the possibility that a wind blow could cause it to detach and fall onto public roads.. In addition, the repair of the machinery was very complicated., since there were no spare parts and the replacement of parts had to be done by others made by hand. Given this circumstance, it has been decided -the maintenance of the public clock depends on the City Council- for changing the sphere, restore the framework on which it sits, restore the bolts and replace the machinery with an electronic system.
The disassembly work was done on Monday. The glass was gradually removed, which, as has been said, was broken in several places, and in a few days it is expected that the new clock can be installed. Everything indicates that the old machinery will be relocated to a museum, although its exact location is not yet known.
