Alcoy is in luck. And yesterday it opened a new chapter in its cultural history with the inauguration of 'Camins d'Art', the ninth exhibition of the Valencian Community Foundation the Light of Images. Hundreds of people toured the three exhibition venues that have been restored for the occasion, and which house until next January more than 250 works of sacred art 36 different populations. The sample already accumulates more than 4.000 group reservations and aims to exceed half a million tourists in ten months.
Representatives from the world of politics, business, cultural, ecclesiastical and society in general, They did not want to miss yesterday the inauguration of the great event that Alcoy will host until January 2012 thanks to the Light of Images. For it, The Community Foundation has developed a campaign for architectural restoration and artistic heritage in the city, and other towns in the regions of L'Alcoià and El Comtat, on the occasion of the exhibition. The cost of this intervention exceeds ten million euros, and its purpose is to ensure the presence of this heritage in the coming centuries and the knowledge of different monumental architectures.
Three monumental buildings have been fully recovered: the churches of Santa María and Mare de Déu, and the Old Asylum of the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly. The north side façade and bell tower of the church of San Mauro have also been restored, and the St. George's tower has been provided with a new lighting system, as a culmination of your restorative process.
‘Ways of Art’ reflects the artistic heritage generated in the geographical area of the regions of L'Alcoià and El Comtat, around figures and traditions.
